Initiatives & Focus Areas

President Grasso was appointed in May 2025. He has identified the following priorities for the upcoming year that amplify the University of Michigan’s academic excellence, engage the campus community and establish a solid foundation and transition for the next president.

  • Reestablish pride and trust by actively engaging with and listening to faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and the Michigan community to build empathy and place value on individual stories and perspectives. 
  • Showcase the University of Michigan’s value to the state, nation, and world by strengthening academic excellence, fostering greater civil and robust discourse on critical issues, and rebuilding public trust – positioning U-M as a leader among its peers with such initiatives as:
  • Position the university for long-term success by refining operational processes, leadership interactions and responsibilities, and decision-making structures to create a high-functioning administrative framework.
