The University of Michigan Board of Regents appointed Ravi Pendse, Ph.D. as vice president for information technology (VPIT) and chief information officer (CIO) effective August 1, 2018.
Dr. Pendse serves as an executive officer of the university and provides university-wide leadership and strategic direction for information technology. He has extensive experience as a successful and collaborative university leader. Prior to joining U-M, he served as Brown University’s vice president for computing and information services and CIO and Wichita State University’s vice president for information technology and CIO.
He is a professor, researcher, teacher, and advisor to students. Dr. Pendse’s successes include securing more than $21 million in external research grants, developing university courses, earning several teaching awards, and publishing numerous scholarly articles and papers co-authored by students.
In 2023, Dr. Pendse was named as U-M’s first-ever Special Advisor to the President for India. In this role, he collaboratively leads and coordinates efforts to engage with U-M alumni and industry leaders in India and promote U-M to exceptional Indian students looking to continue their education abroad.
Dr. Pendse holds a B.S. in electronics and communication engineering from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India. He received his M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Wichita State University.
