Steve Yaros is the Interim Chief of Staff at the University of Michigan’s President’s Office and serves as a member of the university’s leadership team. He is an advisor and strategic partner to the president and supports the university’s executive team in the implementation of the president’s priorities. He oversees presidential initiatives and special projects and manages and coordinates the administrative functions of the President’s office.

Prior to the role of Interim Chief of Staff, Steve served as the Sr. Director of Operations and Initiatives in the President’s Office. In his seven years in the President’s Office, Steve has advised and worked alongside senior leadership to help execute the strategic initiatives of the office by overseeing the President’s Office budget, executive searches, presidential advisory committees, and various presidential honors, awards, and special projects. 

Before transitioning into higher education, Steve served as a political appointee for President Obama, serving as the Deputy Director for White House Operations and Strategic Planning. In that role, he managed a team that oversaw the day-to-day operations of the White House campus, focusing on technology and operational solutions. Steve also led the White House Accessibility and Inclusiveness Working Group.

Steve received his M.P.A. from the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy and his B.A. from the University of Michigan.
