Statement opposing anti-Black behavior

I am deeply disappointed to learn that posters supporting the Black Student Union have been torn down across campus. Freedom of speech is a core tenet of our democracy and our university. We condemn any harmful or destructive acts to property or public spaces. Anti-Black behavior is anathema to our community standards and collective growth as a campus. U-M leaders and I responded yesterday to BSU to meet about its platform, and we are committed to a relationship built upon shared goals and values.
