Statement on the death of Ann Lurie

I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ann Lurie, and join with her family and friends and the University of Michigan community in mourning her passing.

Ann’s generosity catalyzed discoveries and created spaces that changed how our students learn. Her influence is felt deeply throughout our campus and community.

Ann was committed to the advancement of interdisciplinary research, which she deemed “necessary for the future of a superb public university.” Her investments have inspired the future of microelectronics, and accelerated growth and development in the emerging field of biomedical engineering. Her passion for entrepreneurship helped to fuel the Samuel Zell and Robert H. Lurie Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies, while the Ann and Robert H. Lurie Tower provides a place of connection at the center of North Campus.

She leaves us with a powerful example of generosity, humility and grace, and we are incredibly grateful for all that she has enabled at the University of Michigan.
