I am pleased to announce the appointment of Kelli Trosvig as the University of Michigan’s first vice president for information technology and chief information officer. The Board of Regents approved the appointment at today’s meeting.
Ms. Trosvig will oversee information technology strategy, systems and services for our entire university. The Board created this new executive officer position in February. Her appointment is effective November 14.
Ms. Trosvig’s experience at the University of Washington will help her lead in U-M’s complex environment, spread across three campuses and our health system. Since 2012, she has served as the vice president for information technology and chief information officer at the University of Washington, where she leads an IT unit with staff of 850 individuals, an annual operating budget of over $116 million and $25 million in annual capital expenditures. She is responsible for strategic oversight, planning and direction of UW’s IT structure across its three campuses and academic medical center.
She is a recognized leader in higher education information technology, including serving as a member of Internet2’s Trust, Identity for Research and Education (TIER) and Operational Excellence Programs and Priorities committees, and on the higher education advisory boards for Microsoft and Cisco.
Her previous experience includes serving as UW’s interim vice president, as chief operating officer of UW Technology, and in administrative positions at UW’s academic medical center. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with faculty, staff and university leaders at UW on the many interconnected areas of information technology.
Ms. Trosvig earned her Master of Health Administration and Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Washington.
The appointment of Ms. Trosvig follows a successful and competitive search process. I thank the members of the search committee for their thorough efforts leading to this outstanding appointment.
