Dear Colleagues and Students,
The University of Michigan is one of this country’s great research universities. For decades, our scholars and scientists have served society by advancing our understanding of the world and enhancing the quality of life.
With this privilege comes a profound shared responsibility—to our campus, our research partners, and the public—to safeguard the integrity of our work and to protect national security. That means upholding the highest standards of safety, compliance, and research security. I want to thank all of you who make this possible every day through your commitment and diligence.
Recent security concerns have underscored the importance of protecting our research while also ensuring a supportive environment for all scholars, including our international community. We are cooperating with federal authorities and reviewing our internal practices to protect the community, national security, and all aspects of our research enterprise.
Let me be clear: We will fully comply with all applicable laws and regulations and take all necessary actions to safeguard our people, our research, and our nation. We are equally dedicated to supporting international scholars and students who bring critical global perspectives to our classrooms and laboratories, thereby enriching our broader community.
Our research enterprise is dynamic, and our safety and security procedures must be equally vigorous. Today we launched a new website with clear, concise information and guidance on our policies, compliance training, laboratory safety protocols, and other relevant topics.
I am tremendously proud of the legacy, impact, and potential of our research enterprise and all those who contribute to it. We all share responsibility for advancing and protecting this critical portfolio. Together, we will lead with the purpose, integrity, and excellence that define the University of Michigan.
Forever Go Blue!
