2015 Welcome Back Message and Video

To All Members of the Campus Community,

It is a pleasure to welcome you to a new academic year at the University of Michigan.

I very much enjoyed getting to know many of you and exploring the campus and Ann Arbor during my first year as President. I have seen your inventions, innovations, research and creative works. I watched you rebuild neighborhoods in Detroit, and contribute to medical advances in China. I experienced the thrill of joining thousands of fans cheering our teams to victory, and the celebratory moments of my inauguration and first U-M commencements.

Thank you for being so welcoming to me and allowing me to share in your outstanding accomplishments. I have every confidence that the year ahead will be filled with more of your successes.

I am very appreciative of the work we did together over the past year. We collaborated on new academic initiatives and launched a university-wide effort to improve diversity and create a more inclusive campus environment. I shared more thoughts about the year and the areas I will be focusing on in an interview in the University Record.

I look forward to working with you to achieve even greater impact at the University of Michigan. I am also going to keep listening to you as we move forward. My student office hours and fireside chats will continue, as will my meetings with faculty, staff and community groups. At a place like U-M, you never want to stop listening and learning.

I hope you have a wonderful academic year, and I will see you on campus!

Until then, I invite you to watch our new welcome video, and, as always, Go Blue!

Mark S. Schlissel
